As for the additional material added in to make it "deluxe" and boost sticker price, it's nothing to write home about. Most of the songs don't even belong to this album and are edited or live versions of some prior hits.

A subdued version of Josephine from the New light Heaven - Chris Rea - Gold (Cassette) Old Windows is included - this version, in my opinion, was never as strong as Heaven - Chris Rea - Gold (Cassette) original on Shamrock Diaries. Rea looks worn out after his stroke and survival from cancer but remains the true musician still doing live concerts with dedication and incredible zest.

The road has, after all, been his passion. Ride on, Mr. Rea, master of the bottleneck slide guitar. My friend Cody, the owner of the store, suggested I try this Heaven - Chris Rea - Gold (Cassette) out.

I wasn't all that impressed the first few times I listened to it. Well, I gave it a few months, and darned if Chris Rea according to Wikipedia it is pronounced "REE-ah"; who knows how accurate that is doesn't grow on me big time. Both his singing and his slide guitar playing phrased as though he is singing are super-catchy, and I love every track on this CD.

Somehow I lost the CD maybe my son has itand I had it on my wish list for years. I finally got tired of waiting and bought it for myself. Still a great recording; I'd recommend it to anyone.

Don't give up on it; it's stellar. First heard this in Paris, while visiting friends, I kept trying Heaven - Chris Rea - Gold (Cassette) guess who was singing This is a beautiful album. However, the sound quality of the other songs seems good. Otherwise, another great album by Chris Heaven - Chris Rea - Gold (Cassette). Love Chris Rea. Every guitar oriented music lover should have this in their collection!

One person found this helpful. Wonderfully unique sounds. Bought the cassette remember Cassettes? I'm not crazy about all the songs but, that's just me. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Chris Rea was a more successful artist by now, finally, having been putting albums out since This was actually his eleventh album.

It was the follow-up to the dark-ish Dire Straits-influenced and bluesy rock of "The Road To Hell", which was a hit of an album. This offering is less dark, more laid-back but still solid in its tough AOR rock appeal. It is definitely rock for reflective, hard but surprisingly sensitive men approaching forty. Just like Rea himself.

Auberge 2. Gone Fishing 3. You're Not A Number 4. Heaven 5. Set Me Free 6. Red Shoes 7. Winter Song 8. Every Second Counts Looking For The Summer And You My Love When it does, it is a riffy and brassily upbeat rock number. Rea's gritty, flinty voice is the dominant feature. It is a warm, reassuring but tough voice.

Rea is an extremely talented artist, versatile and engaging. From Blues to Rock, to Easy Listening. His band is a dream team of well known and respected artists. Given the time of this recording and it's accompanying engineering, it was done very well overall.

The visual is clear and the sound is great. No complaints. I suppose the perfectionist may hunt for slights with this product but I'm not the harsh type. I'm more reasonable. Like Rea, I don't fuss about things. I try to enjoy what's placed before me. And I did, immensely. The packaging left me concerned when it arrived, though it survived travel well. No damage. I underestimated this aspect of purchase, so I own any concerns in this regard.

It has been one hell of an experience. So good, that friends who enjoyed this with me, now want their own to add in their collection. We're all different when it comes to music tastes and how music is engineered and packaged.

Again, no complaints here. Go for it and sit back. As a guitarist myself, I basked in Rea's slide work and Blues tones. With heart and soul. No slacking with Chris Rea. Loved every minute of it. Listen to the guy who never sold out to the pressures of marketing agencies and recording companies. An artist of integrity and guts. I'm too big a fan of Rea and his band to find flaws. Here, there are not any to find.

A wise buy for sure. Critics can try to "choke the smile on every face," but not mine. Love you Chris Rea. You are the man. I'm sure other reviewers have covered it song by song, etc. Otherwise it's all good even when it's not excellent, but it's nearly all excellent.

Alice M. Grove Top Contributor: Baking. Chris Rea is a favorite and I was so pleased to add this CD to my collection. His music has so much heart and emotion and his voice does it justice.

I have long felt that this talented vocalist and composer has been overlooked. A little of everything on this CD. I bought this CD just to get "Texas," which I really like. There are some other interesting songs on this CD, but in all honesty I don't play them nearly as much as I play "Texas.

Although as someone else pointed out, it is a bit odd to listen to a song about a strictly American locale, Texas, and hear Rea refer to someone as being "several meters high. My favorite cd of Chris Rea. Bought the cassette version of the original release.

Could not pass up opportunity to get the cd version now. Sounds so much better than the cassette version. To this day, one of the best CDs I have ever owned.
