As for any intent of giving musical representation to killer mermaids on this album, Emilia Feldt 's beautiful siren song is better felt here than on the title track. IN FLAMES manages to worm a trusty rock-jive groove into the verses of "Rusted Nail" and thus keeps the song interesting as the soaring choruses and bridges ring of Berlin-era David Bowieall with electro washes overhead.
Anders Friden is one of the reasons why this album is listenable since his pipes have become refined to perfection. Yet the band's alarming shift toward conventional pop metal ostracizes the audience that initially got behind IN FLAMES and made them potential kings of the next-gen realm. And we mixed the album in early January and here we are talking about it. I feel really good now that we have some distance and I'm super pleased with the result. I think there's a little bit for everyone. Anders : "We don't have a master plan, to be honest.
We just try to create the best possible album we can at the moment where we are in life at that point. So we never look at other bands or any genres and say, 'Oh, this is what we wanna do. The pressure, especially Album my end, it was… We Album) some ideas and structures and parts of songs, but the… The first two weeks, we put everything together, but I had nothing — I had no vocal melodies, no lyrics, no nothing.
And I wanted to see if I could deliver under pressure and what that would do with me as a songwriter. So Album) had to draw inspiration from something, so I was watching a lot of documentaries about people in really bad situations, a lot of drug-related documentaries and so on. And from there, there's so much sadness and desperation, but there's hope as well, to get away from all the misery. There's love and there's hate, and I kind of used that. Then the title, 'Siren Charms'a siren is in Greek mythology; it's like a womanly creature who sings nice songs and lures sailors to the depths.
And I used that kind of image to describe something in life that will charm you, and she has to symbolize the good and the evil part, so to speak. So it covers the whole album and all the theme of the album, if there's a theme. And all the different songs are around this topic. I think it has a sad tone or something. It was created under a lot of emotions and stress and inspiration as well, because of this time pressure, but it was supposed to be like that.
I hated myself towards the end of the recording, because of this. I was, like, 'Why do you put yourself in this situation? Still, it builds up nicely and is a welcome play on expectations for a more straightforward power ballad after those on the last 2 albums before this Evil in a Closet and Come Clarity. I have to say of the album that this one comes from that In Flames is very obvious when it comes to regressing out of loyalty to their TROO FANS and their constant calls for a return to a heavier sound.
Dead Eyes - In Flames - Siren Charms (Box Set the band has some space to fill on a CD, let Anders put in one of his electronic tracks or something clearly different but still metal like his collaboration with Niclas in Fans may complain in the short run, but in 10 years people will at least still remember the disc. I like them. The moment where it dares to be dissonant, where the vocal melody stays on Db the 6th note in F minoris just odd enough to be memorable without trying to outsmart the listener.
A pop listener, of course. We accept the poppiness at this point. We just want more flavors of pop. True to form, the latest In Flames album, Battlesfeatures another power ballad. At least the video is neat. The amount of parentheses in this paragraph ought to tell you that some of this information is not officially significant, but adds to my sense of foreboding about the future Album this band.
